I have bought/paid for the product, don't use it on anyone's machine but my own, but I have to pay the price for YOUR perceived problems with 'pirates'. You also pay extra at retail to accomodate shoplifting, and in the produce isle to cover spoilage. I'm no bigger a fan of activation schemes than you are, but software is hardly distinct in having customers pay more as a result of 'inefficiencies' in the distribution system.
